I'm Back!!

Hello!! I am back! It's been so long! I love to read other blogs-- but admit I do not like updating my own. Since October, a lot has happened. I was working in the Murray School District as an AmeriCorps representative. I worked in every grade to help children read better. Many people wonder how I have so much patience with my students, and it actually surprises me too! I loved, loved, loved my students this year. Yesterday was a sad day saying good-bye to everyone. I won't be able to return next year due to student teaching, and Will miss everyone I work with so much! Students would say, "Miss Short, I will miss you next year!" They made me so happy, and it was because of them that I woke up every morning to see their smiling faces! I loved to see them succeed! After this year, I knew for sure I wanted to be a school teacher and I look forward to that day :) Here is a picture of a cute family I worked with. The mom volunteered for the reading program I was in charge of, and I worked with all her kids. Such a cute family! When they brought me a bouquet of flowers I just broke down and cried! Below is a picture of the school psychologist, me( squinting with the sun in my eyes), an awesome friend Cris and the school Principal. These ladies were so much fun to work with. I learned a lot from each one of them!

I am not sure if I'm allowed to posts pics of students... but I'm doing it anyway :) Here are my second grade boys that made me laugh EVERY SINGLE DAY! The things these boys talked about has made me want to start blogging "crazy things kids say" I will never forget when one of them said, "Miss Short, do you know what COOL stands for?" I of course had no idea what he was going to say. He said, "Constipated, Over-weighted, Obnoxious, Loser!" I about died. Where he came up with that, I will never know! HA! HA!

Although, I am sad to end this chapter in my life, I really do look forward to what is next to come. I will start student teaching in August in a Kindergarten classroom. I have been placed in the Granite School District and look forward to meeting new students and new faculty members. I am more excited at the thought of graduating next Spring!! :) I will have to post something about my new experiences when they begin.

Recently, I went back to the Old Spaghetti Factory to work as a server. I worked there in high school as a "to-go hostess" and decided when I turned 21 to go back as a server. I love my job, I work with some awesome people! :)

Now, summer vacation has begun. No super fun plans scheduled except for a family reunion the end of this month. Half-semester classes also start in a few weeks and although it doesn't seem too exciting- it just means I am that much closer to being done!!

Hey Everyone! Just wanted to say that I am STILL alive. I haven't updated since Easter! CRAZY ME! So much has happened since Easter, and my camera broke so I don't have a lot of pictures to prove it. Since Easter, I have graduated from SLCC with an associates degree in Pre-Teacher Education, and Kris graduated with his Bachelors in Economics. Kris and I went to San Diego with his family the day we graduated. Below are some pics from San Diego.

Sometime in June, my parents took all their daughters to St. George to see Footloose at Tuachon. We had such a great time shopping, playing and relaxing!
In August, I started school at the UofU. I miss SLCC and being involved, but the U is still fun. Kris and I, along with our close friends have season tickets in the MUSS again this year. We like going to football games. I will admit I people watch more than I watch the actual football game. My A.D.D. kicks in bad! 30 seconds in a football game = 3 min really.
I am busy working non-stop, along with homework etc. Kris and I just celebrated 3 years since we met. We don't have an actual day of when we started dating so we just go off of the day we met which was September 30, 2006. We celebrated by going to the SkyBox where we ate the first day we met after the homecoming Utah Football Game with our friends Dan and Liz. The manager totally gave us a free HUGE dessert and 50% off our ticket! Now, thats good customer service!

My goal is update more often than every 6 months from now on!

Happy Easter to everyone! This past weekend was such a blast. I regret not taking more pictures! It all started Saturday when I tried Sushi. I swore on my life I would never try sushi. Kris has been trying to talk me into it for 2 years now. I would always tell him NO WAY! Well Saturday we went on a nice date downtown at the Gateway and we ate at the Happy Sumo and had a great chef make stuff right in front of us. Surprisingly enough I ate the sushi (fried) and actually enjoyed it. (I wish I had a picture!) We then went shopping to find Kris new work clothes for his new job at IHC.
Sunday we celebrated Easter with my family by eating a yummy dinner, watching the Masters with my dad haha!! and having an easter egg hunt and celebrating my neices birthday.

Winter

After living in Utah for 20 years I finally decided to try skiing. After trying snowboarding about a year and a half ago I swore on my life I would never EVER go do anything in the snow EVER again. I spend the whole day on my face or my butt. Well, two of our friends Angelee and Gerrard are ski instructors at Solitude and they asked if they could teach me how to ski. My first reaction was HECK NO! but, I was brave, borrowed a bunch of ski gear, rented my ski's and ventured to Solitude. Gerrard was a great instructor! I had so much fun, I balanced just fine and after we left I totally wanted my own pair of skis, my own oufit etc. I am so glad I learned how to ski this season. I have had some rough days, but overall I have had SO much fun with Kris and our friends. Here is a picture we took at Solitude. I wish I would have taken some at every ski resort.

It's been a long time

I know, I know its been a very long time since I've updated my blog. Finals are finally over for me and now i'm just enjoying my break. Here is what I have been up to lately though.....

In mid November Kris and I went with some friends and the University of Utah student secti0n (MUSS) to san diego to watch the football game. It was so much fun to be out of Utah in nice warm weather, and Utah won so it was great. Minus the long bus ride with annoying people I enjoyed the trip.

For Halloween I dressed up as Pebbles from the Flintstones, and Kris went as Bam Bam. We looked more like cave man/woman, but thats not the look I was going for!! I had a lot of fun hanging out with friends.

Today my dad, Kris, and I went to the U game. We were lucky enough to enjoy box seats today, that way we didn't have to stand the entire 4 quarters!! It was so nice to sit...We had a good time, and they won!

Night Out with Family Friends

The other night my family went to dinner at Wingers with the Drakes. It was so fun to get our mom's together with their daughters. We lived next door to each other for many many years. I have many memories of them being my favorite neighbors!! We aalked about memories, and had a fabulous time! We'll have to get together more often.

Tonight we celebrated Kristopher's 28th Birthday. We celebrated at his parents house. I bought him that cute shirt he's wearing, and his parents and I went in on a GPS system for him. I was excited for him to open it, because he had no idea. He tried guessing, but never got it.

Summer Vacation to HAWAII!!!

In August, Kris's family took a famiy vacation to Hawaii. Thanks to him and his family I was able to tag along. It was so beautiful, and I would definately go again. It was an amazing experience to see so many cool things. We stayed on Lanakai beach, and were able to do many things. We saw Pearl Harbor, we kayaked, went on hikes, swam, relzaxed, shopped, went to the beach, snorkeled, shopped more. Here are a few pics:

This picture was taken of Kris and I at Waikiki beach. The lay I'm wearing actually has a funny story. It was one of my first nights. As we were all walking down the beach, a cute little hawaiin boy comes up to me and says, "ALOHA" and I thought, how cute! a free lay. So, he puts it over my head, I go to walk off, and he sticks out his palm and says, "5 dollars please". I felt so stupid. Kris was sweet and bought the lay for me. Lesson learned right?

The six of us went on a hike to Manoa Falls. We all expected a huge waterfall, but after a long beautiful hike through the rain forest we came to a small waterfall. It was still awesome. The book said it would be a stroll through a pretty rainforest so we all wore flip-flops. We get to the hike and it was more than just a stroll. We learned our lesson not to wear flip-flops hiking, and there are warning signs that said "WARNING: Leptospirosis can come from the water" Kinda scary, but we were troopers, hiked in our flip-flops and survived it!

Kris and I toured the Bowfin at Pearl Harbor. I didn't feel to well this day, but I am so glad I went to Pearl Harbor. I learned more here than I ever did from a boring textbook. It was a very neat experience. Seeing a submarine that was actually used in WWII was very interesting and I'm glad I had the opportunity to do it. Thanks Kris for taking me on that!

Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to be a teacher. I used to pretend with imaginary friends at a very young age. When I entered high school, I had thoughts of becoming a Nurse instead, but after my first semester at SLCC, I decided nursing was definately not for me! I went back on my childhood goal, and started classes to become a teacher. Over the summer I was able to work in a kindergarten classroom. I totally enjoyed it. I will be done at SLCC in May 2009, and then I will head to the UofU to finish my degree there!
